COVID-19 Update: April 16, 2020

April 16, 2020 (8:42 am) Central Time

Dear Simpson College Community,

Good morning. Below you will several important updates related to the Simpson College campus community. We continue to remain committed to updating and informing each of you on key issues related to COVID-19. Please look for our next COVID-19 update on Monday, April 20.

May Term Update

After a due diligence review of the impact of changes to May Term, faculty in consultation with the academic dean have reaffirmed the decision to move May Term ONLINE.  While we recognize the unique challenges in delivering intensive, accelerated courses online, I know the Simpson College faculty are prepared and committed to doing so. I want to again thank our faculty and students for their dedication and innovation during these unprecedented times. At this time, the college has not made a decision pertaining to summer course offerings, but will communicate any changes to the campus community as soon as decisions are made.

Registrar's Office Staffing/Hours

Effective, April 16 the registrar’s office will be working remotely between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The staff will be coming in on a rotating basis to ensure business continuity related to the process of forms and transcripts. If members of the campus community have questions, please contact the registrar’s office by email at registrar@simpson.edu

Employer Panel: How COVID-19 is Impacting Summer Internships & New Grad Hiring
Simpson College students are invited to attend a virtual employer panel hosted by the Keeping Educated Youth (KEY) in Des Moines organization. A panel of employers from the Des Moines metro will share how they are responding to the impacts of COVID-19.  Discussion topics will include delivery of summer 2020 internships, hiring projections for new college graduates, and changes to recruitment and selection of new employees. The panel will be moderated by Bobbi Sullivan, Director of Simpson College Career Development.  To register for the event, click [https://bit.ly/2XFuM6D].  A recording of the event will be made available for those who cannot attend.
