Dear Simpson College Community:
In my first full week at Simpson College, I have been struck by the devotion and commitment of this campus community. I have been impressed with the work of the Crisis Management Team as they move to ensure a safe return to campus. Below, I have outlined the changes to our academic calendar for next year. The intent with these changes is to ensure we keep our campus safe by minimizing the times when our community disperses and reconvenes.
Revised Academic Calendar for 2020-2021
Due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 the college has released the following revised academic calendar for 2020-2021. The revisions reflect the intent of Simpson College to keep our entire campus community safe and healthy, and also ensure that we are adhering to the U.S. Department of Education’s requirements for days of instruction.
All college classes will begin on Monday, August 24. The following dates will now be instructional days:
- Labor Day (Monday, September 7)
- Fall Break (Thursday, October 22 & Friday, October 23)

After Thanksgiving break, all instruction and final exams will be virtual/online. The last day of classes will be November 30. Reading Day will now take place on December 1 and the Fall semester will conclude on December 4.
*Please note, due to on-campus housing and meal plans beginning a week earlier, there will be no changes to room and board. In addition to maintaining the number of contracted “board days” on the meal plans, students will not need to check out of rooms or remove their belongings during the semester break.
